The Lake Norman Junior Compass Draw is a tenis tournament for intermediate level junior players looking to get some tournament experience without the pressure, scheduling issues, and costs associated with traditional weekend tournament. Players play one match every ten days in the local Lake Norman area. The "compass draw" tournament format allows players to keep playing, even when they lose, and also ensures that matches get more competitive each round. Here are the basics:

• Starts on June 13th, 2017. Cost is $25 per player.
• Boys and Girls 18 and Under and 12 and Under divisions (subject to change)
• 12 and Under divisions use lower compression green-dot tennis balls.
• Drawsheet posted on website (www.compassdraw.com).
• Players contact each other to setup a date and location to play. Home player gets to select the location (in the local Lake Norman area).
• Both players bring a new can of balls to the match. One can is used for the match and the unopened can goes to the winner.
• Match is played (best 2 out of 3 sets, with a 10-point tiebreaker in lieu of a 3rd set).
• Winner posts scores on the website. This then automatically updates the draw so you see who you play next.
• Tournament takes place in two phases: Seeding Draw and Final Draw.
• Seeding Draw uses "compass draw" format and consists of either 3 or 4 matches (depending on draw size). At the end of the Seeding Draw, all players are ranked (seeded) based on their match performance (just like in the pros!). The seedings are used to create the Final Draw
• Final Draw uses a first-round-loss-consolation-bracket format. Prizes are awarded to the winner of the main and consolation brackets. In larger draws, runners-up also get prizes.
